The Locals Call It Spooky Hollow

After my research in the Winfield, Kansas area regarding the local legend of "Monkey's Demon," it appeared as though most regarded it fondly as a teenage party destination from the 1980's. The land is private property and very hard to find the exact spot. My search for the supernatural turned up nothing, sad to say.

But something good came out of it all. Some contacts turned me on to Arkansas City, a small town south of Winfield. There's supposedly a place southeast of the city running near the Arkansas River called Spooky Hollow. I haven't been there yet but, I managed to find a few photos online. I've heard the place is haunted by the ghost of a ghost or spirit who lurks under an old wooden bridge. The legend goes like this: a bus full of boy scouts collided with a drunk driver while traveling the twisty narrow roads of Spooky Hollow. One of the boys died as a result. As you drive over the bridge the ghost of the boy causes your car to stall or appear to run out of gas just long enough to check to make sure you weren't the one who brought his life to an end.

Others have sworn sitings of a deer woman who roams the Hollow. It is known to be a haven for Satan worshippers, escaped psychopaths, werewolves and witches.

The latter was prominently featured in the news a couple of months ago when an elderly woman Sadie Davis was found dead on the Spooky Hollow beach. She was dressed as a witch, which raised some speculation to real covens operating in the area. My interest was piqued although the media coverage was over almost as soon as it began. I have followed the story as close as a blood hound and am making preparations to visit this area soon! Will keep you updated.
